Augusta State University Athletics
The Augusta State Jaguars compete in the NCAA and in the Peach Belt Conference. Men’s sports include basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, and tennis. Women’s sports include basketball, softball, cross country, golf, tennis, and volleyball. Augusta State’s Christenberry Fieldhouse is home to indoor track and exercise equipment, a full-service weight room, and an indoor Olympic-size swimming pool. It is also home to Kinesiology & Health Science studies. August State also has access to the historic Forest Hills Golf Course, the course where Bobby Jones started on his way to his 1930 Grand Slam of Golf. Augusta State’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee includes two members from each intercollegiate team (including cheerleading) and consults with students, administrators, coaches, and staff on how to improve the student-athlete experience and to improve the sports program overall. In 2004-2005, the Augusta State men’s basketball team finished with an overall record of 19-11 with an impressive 11-1 showing at home and a 10-6 record against conference opponents. The softball team also had an exciting home record at 13-4, while finishing with an overall record of 28-20.
Augusta State University is an NCAA Division II School. The golf team competes at the Division I level. Teams compete in the Peach Belt Conference. Men’s sports include basketball, baseball, golf, and tennis. Women’s sports include basketball, softball, cross country, golf, tennis, volleyball, and cheerleading. The team nick-name is the Jaguars.
Athletic facilities at Augusta State University include a fieldhouse with an indoor track and Olympic sized pool, the Forest Hills Golf Course, baseball, soccer, and softball fields, and intramural fields.
Among the championships and awards that Augusta State University has received are individual golf championships and many NCAA golf championship appearances by the team. As Augusta is home of the PGA Masters Tournament, golf is the dominant sport at Augusta State.
Student athletes receive academic support from the university in the form of a Student Athlete Advisory Commission, which works to represent student athletes within the athletic administration, the university, and the community.
